Main Street Baseball Club Names Derek Wakeley as
New Director of Baseball
June 27, 2025 - East Greenwich, NJ — Main Street Baseball Club is excited to announce the promotion of Derek Wakeley to Director of Baseball. A former collegiate standout and coaching talent, Wakeley brings extensive playing and coaching experience, along with a strong track record in player development and recruitment.
Wakeley is a 2016 graduate of West Deptford High School, where he helped lead the team to a New Jersey state championship. He began his collegiate career at Stony Brook University before transferring to Gloucester County College (now Rowan College of South Jersey – Gloucester), competing from 2017 to 2018. He continued his career at the University of Delaware from 2019 to 2021, where he earned national recognition by being named to the 2020 NCBWA Stopper of the Year Watch List, honoring the top relief pitchers in NCAA Division I baseball.

After his playing days, Wakeley quickly transitioned into coaching. He returned to RCSJ–Gloucester as an assistant coach and recruiting coordinator from 2021 to 2022. He then rejoined the University of Delaware from 2022 to 2023 as assistant pitching coach and camp director.
Coach Wakeley started working with Main Street Baseball in January 2025 as lead trainer for Main Street’s Winter Player Development Program, overseeing training for more than 100 athletes over the course of the winter.
“We’re thrilled to welcome coach Wakeley to Main Street Baseball Club in this new capacity,” said Kevin Murphy, co-founder, Main Street Baseball Club. “Derek brings high-level experience, a passion for the game, and a clear vision for developing talent both on and off the field. We’re excited about the future of our program under his leadership.”
“I’m incredibly grateful for the opportunity to lead the baseball program at Main Street Baseball Club,” said Wakeley. “Baseball has shaped who I am as a person and coach, and I’m excited to help the next generation of players grow, compete, and reach their full potential — both on the field and beyond. I can’t wait to get started.”
